I think BCEC is catchy. It's easy to remember because of BCDC.

We initially thought so too, but BCEC is too close to BCE which is the fund raising organization for the Burlingame schools.

The City of Burlingame obtained a Green Streets and Parking Lots Grant for a storm drainage demonstration project at Parking Lot C off Donnelly Avenue in downtown Burlingame.

The goal of this project is to capture storm water runoff and treat it in landscaped planter areas or rain gardens. The new rain gardens will have bioswales to collect and treat storm water runoff before releasing it into the gutter and eventually the storm drain. Landscaping will include native drought tolerant plants. Boardwalks will allow pedestrian circulation across the planters to the reconfigured parking lot.

Construction will begin January 18, 2010 (weather permitting) and will be phased to enable the lot to remain open. Construction is expected to last two to three months.

The new CITIZEN'S ENVIRONMENTAL COUNCIL BURLINGAME (CEC BURLINGAME) is busy planning ways to help reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability in our city. Projects under discussion for 2010 include a “Drive Less” challenge, green speaker series, green house tour, green street fair, bike tours, school projects, green building guidelines, green business certification and a new Web site.

If you would like more information, please contact CEC / Burlingame Chair Stan Vistica at hapvist@gmail.com or Vice Chair Jerry Winges at jlw@wingesaia.com.

Hello! Just wondering... We had someone who lives in Burlingame call yesterday who wants to network and get involved. We are certainly going to try and get them on board as a volunteer, but is your committee also an option? Please let me know!

Thanks
